How much does a Schengen visa cost ?

When submitting an Schengen visa application you will need to pay a fee to cover the costs of processing it. Details of the costs involved are below.

  • In January 2020, the fee for a standard Schengen Visa increased from €60 to €80 ($90), to ensure the Schengen Area’s member countries can better cover the cost of processing applications. The price will be reviewed every three years.
  • The Schengen Visa cost for children between 6 to 12 years of age increased from €35 to €40 ($45) in January 2020.
  • Children younger than six can apply for free.
  • It is also worth noting that fees may be waived if you are under 24 and participating in a conference, sporting or cultural event, or a trip organized by a non-profit organization.
  • The Schengen Visa fee for nationals from Russia stands at €40.

Is it the same for all Schengen countries?

The cost of a short-stay Schengen Visa is standardized for all countries, so it will cost the same whether you are traveling to France, Italy, Spain, Germany or any of the other 23 Schengen States. The costs of work and student visas for Schengen Countries may vary, as might fees for additional documents like residency permits. For example, the cost of a French Student Visa varies from €55 to €99.

How much does the multiple-entry Schengen Visa cost?

The fee for a multiple-entry visa is the same as an ordinary short-stay one (€80 or $90), even though it allows you to take multiple trips lasting fewer than 90 days for as long as the visa is valid (usually one, three, or five years).

 

 

Will there be any additional costs?

If you apply through an external service provider, such as a visa agency or a visa center, like VFS Global, you will have to pay an extra fee to the provider.
You will also require travel and medical insurance covering you for emergency expenses of up to €30,000 to obtain your visa. You may also incur an additional cost by providing documentation of a flight booking or itinerary, which you will be required to present at your visa application interview. Are there any circumstances in which I will not need to pay a Schengen Visa fee?

Schengen Visa fees may be waived for those under 24 attending cultural, educational or sporting events. They also may be waived for pupils, students and accompanying teachers on a school trip, researchers traveling to perform scientific studies - particularly those backed by the European Union or the Schengen Member States. Holders of diplomatic, official or service passports traveling for official purposes also do not need to pay a Schengen Visa fee.
Children under six years old can also enter the Schengen Area without paying a visa application fee.
