Frequently asked questions

Does AXA also deal with the processing of visa applications at embassies?

AXA Schengen does not process visa applications. We provide the travel insurance document that is one of the requirements for your Schengen visa application. For the actual visa application process, you'll need to contact the embassy or consulate of the Schengen country you plan to visit. For helpful visa application information, you can visit our guide to get a visa.

Will I receive the policy document for visa approval immediately after purchasing?

Yes, you will receive your insurance certificate immediately after your payment is processed. The document will be sent to your email and will also be available to download on the confirmation page of your purchase. This certificate contains all the information required by embassies for visa applications, including coverage amounts, policy dates, and emergency contact information. Please check your spam/junk folder if you don't see it in your inbox within a few minutes of purchase.

What specific information does the embassy need to see on the insurance certificate?

Our insurance certificates display all information prominently, making them easily acceptable by all Schengen embassies. We format our certificates specifically to highlight these key requirements for visa officials.

Schengen embassies require your insurance certificate to clearly show:

  1. Your full name and birth date matching your passport
  2. Coverage for the entire duration of your planned stay
  3. Minimum coverage amount of €30,000 for medical expenses
  4. Coverage for emergency medical treatment
  5. Coverage for medical repatriation
  6. Validity throughout all Schengen countries
Do your insurances cover all countries in the Schengen area?

Yes, our Schengen insurances covers all Schengen area countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The coverage is valid throughout the entire Schengen area during your stay, regardless of which specific Schengen countries you plan to visit. The insurance meets the requirements for visa applications to any Schengen country.

Can I get a refund if my visa is refused?

Yes, we offer a full refund if your visa application is refused. Here's the simple process:

  1. Email us at info.schengen@axa-schengen.com with the following information:
    • First name
    • Last name
    • Policy number
    • Date of purchase
    • Visa review date
    • Additional comments
  2. Attach a copy of the official visa refusal letter from the embassy/consulate. The document must contain the name of the insured as well as a date and stamp from the embassy.
  3. We'll process your refund within 5-7 business days to your original payment method.

Additionally, with our Essential and Annual plans, you are also covered in the UK, Ireland, and Cyprus. Please note that our Basic plan only covers the Schengen area.

If you travel frequently, consider our Annual plan, which offers annual insurance for several trips a year. It's a great way to stay covered without having to purchase insurance for each trip individually.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept the following payment methods:

  • Credit/debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express
  • PayPal
  • iDeal (for Dutch customers)
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay

All these payment methods are secure and do not generate any additional fees.

Can I pay in my local currency instead of Euros?

Our prices and payments are in Euros only. But don't worry! When you pay with your credit card, your bank will convert the amount to your local currency at their current exchange rate.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Your bank might charge a small foreign currency conversion fee (this is set by your bank, not us)
  • Your credit card statement will show the equivalent amount in your local currency
  • The final price in your local currency depends on the exchange rate at the time of purchase

You can also select a secondary currency in the payment process to see an estimated rate. Just remember, the final price will still be processed in Euros.

If you're concerned about the exchange rate, check with your bank for their current Euro conversion rate before making the purchase.

How can I see the price in my local currency?

Our website allows you to view prices in different currencies to help you understand the cost of your insurance:

  1. In the top right corner of our site, you can select your preferred currency from several available options
  2. Prices will then be displayed in this currency, with an indicative exchange rate
  3. You will be able to see the converted amounts throughout the purchase process

Please note that this feature is for informational purposes only. Although prices are displayed in your local currency, the final payment will always be processed in euros. The actual exchange rate will be the one applied by your bank or payment provider at the time of the transaction.
