Are you an Indian national planning an upcoming trip to Europe? If so, then chances are you’ll need a Schengen visa. And to get that visa, you’ll first need to sort a good bit of paperwork — including filling out the Schengen visa application form. But don’t worry! Not only can AXA tell you where to find such a form from India, but we’ve also got anything else you might need to know about it below.

Where can I find the Schengen Visa application form from India?

So, again, Indian passport holders need to apply for a Schengen Visa in order to enter any of Europe’s Schengen Area countries. And to do that, they must first and foremost fill in a Schengen Visa application form.

Fortunately, the European Union’s official visa page provides an official version of the Schengen visa application form* — including for applicants from India — free of charge.

*NOTE: Other versions of it can be found in India too — via your destination Schengen country’s embassy, consulate, official government website, and/or accredited visa application center. But don’t worry. While the formatting may vary slightly, the forms themselves will cover the same information.

How do I book my Schengen Visa appointment in India?

And speaking of your destination Schengen country. Indian Schengen Visa applicants must also book an appointment to be interviewed in order to obtain their visa — and then attend it with their supporting documents (more on those below too).

Traditionally, the interview is booked through and held at your desired Schengen country’s embassy or consulate.

PRO-TIP: The European Union’s official website also has links to all Schengen diplomatic missions worldwide — including those in India.

Additionally, some countries also use outsourced visa application centers located in most of the world’s major cities.

For example, in India, France and many other countries use the company VFS Global. And it has centers in Mumbai, Pune, Puducherry, Chennai, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Goa, New Delhi, Kochi, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Bengaluru.

PRO-TIP: The VFS website can also often provide you with a Schengen Visa application form , as well as tools to track your Schengen Visa application. Just click on “India” and your destination country, and explore!

-a
flight itinerary for your Schengen visa;

-proof of accommodation during your stay (such as hotel reservations);

-proof of your civil status (such as a marriage certificate);

*IMPORTANT: But keep in mind that the specific paperwork you need will depend on the authorities of your destination country, what type of Schengen visa you want, and your particular situation. So make sure to check everything with the official sources above too!

5 quick tips for filling in your Schengen Visa application form

And now here are a few basic pointers for filling in the form itself:

1) Match your passport exactly: Write your name as it appears in your passport — include hyphens, accents, and ensure your signature matches the one in your passport.

2) Keep documents consistent: Make sure all spellings and details on the form match your supporting documents exactly.

3) Be honest and complete: Inaccurate or missing info can delay or derail your application.

4) Use clear formatting: Write in block letters, use DD-MM-YYYY for dates, and enter “N/A” if something doesn’t apply.

5) List all destinations: Mention every Schengen country you’ll visit and clearly indicate where you’ll spend the most time.

FAQ

What should I do if I fill in my Schengen visa application form wrong?

If it is a significant rather than an easily correctable error, you will need to resubmit your application. So make sure you check that all is correct.

If the Schengen country I intend to visit has no embassy or consulate in India, where do I submit my application?

Although most countries are represented in India, those without an embassy will be represented by another country’s consulate. And that’s where you should apply (check the official sources above for more).

If I previously applied for a Schengen Visa, do I have to fill in another form?

Yes. Unless you have a valid Multiple-Entry Schengen visa. However, if your visa application was in the past five years, you may not need to submit new biometric data with your application.
